my lipstick obsession

Lipstick Obsession

(left to right, top to bottom, listed below)

As most of my friends and colleagues know, I am obsessed with lipstick. It’s gotten to the point where my beloved sister-from-another-mister out in NYC will actually yell at me via text if I post about another new lipstick. That said, I like to think of myself as a lippie connoisseur. I’ve also been pretty lazy with my eye makeup lately, so a a little black liner and a bold lip have been my go-to! Here’s a list of my favorites.

Nude (pink undertones): bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Speak Your Mind

Perks: Abyssinian Oil, Omega Fatty Acids, and Vitamins A, C, E

While I love MAC’s Angel, most of the time I don’t want that frost finish. The Marvelous Moxie lipsticks are ultra-pigmented and super buttery with a satin finish. Speak Your Mind is a blushy pinkish nude. When paired with a nude liner, it looks very true to the color in the tube. Tip: This color is great for mixing. I like to line and lightly fill my lip with a darker pink liner and then top with this color for a totally different result.

Honorable Mentions: Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Bouquet & MAC Lipstick in Angel

Nude (coral undertones): MAC Lipstick in Coral Bliss

This Cremesheen shade is definitely not true-to-tube, looking like more of a nude than a coral on me. It’s a fun departure from my usual pinky nudes. When I’m tan, I love to pair it with a copper/bronze eye shimmer, brown liner, and a creamy coral blush.

Honorable Mention: Maybelline Color Whisper in Coral Ambition

Pink: Maybelline Color Whisper in Pink Possibilities

This one is pretty awesome. Initially I was thrown off by the name, thinking “whisper” meant it was going to look like a tinted lip balm or something. Wrong. Unlike most lipsticks that are made with waxes and oils, this lippie is made with a featherlight gel formula. The pigment is rather impressive for such a weightless feel. The darker colors seem to have even more of a true-to-tube finish. So soft on your lips you’ll forget you even have it on. Tip: This is the perfect topcoat-like finish to layer over a stained lip.

Coral Red: Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream in Crush

Perks: 50% pigment dispersion, infused with 5mg of resveratrol

Perfect shade for spring/summer of course. Crush is a bright coral/red. The Cashmere Lip Creams deliver super intense, rich color, using just a small amount of the product. I love love love this formula. My only wish is that they develop more color options! I’ll rave more about this line below (see Deep Red).

Orange: MAC Lipstick in Vegas Volt

This Amplified Creme finished is described as a full power coral, but I think it looks more like a true orange on me. While I rarely wear orange lips, this one looks pretty good with my skin tone. High pigment, true-to-tube color.

Red: Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Strawberry Kissed

Perks: Avocado Oil Infusion

Holy compliments! Every time I sport this color people always ask me what it is, tell me how it’s such a great red, and remark on the whiteness of my teeth (I assure you, it’s an illusion!) This is the perfect matte red, with a slight pink undertone. The consistency is more of a “long-lasting” formula than what I think of a “stain” to be. It does start to feel like it’s drying out after a couple of hours, but it never looks as dry as it feels. It’s easy to layer a touch-up application, or for a quick fix use a little balm.

Fuschia Red: Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream in Sancerre

Perks: 50% pigment dispersion, infused with 5mg of resveratrol

This was the very first color I purchased from this formula, and seriously, it changed my life. It changed the way I looked at bold lips. This creme-to-matte finish just rocks my world. The pigment payoff is untouchable. It makes my pout look fuller, softer, and fresh. The color lasts forever, only needing little touch-ups in the corners of the lips a couple of times a day. I know I’m totally a Bite Beauty junkie, but this line is the absolute best. Every woman needs color like this in her arsenal.

Honorable Mention: MUA Color Intense Lipstick in #253 Orchid

Dark/Vamp: Custom Lip Color from Bite Beauty Lip Lab (1/2 Scarlet 1/2 Tannin Pure Pigment)

Ok so I know this one’s cheating a little, but it’s the darkest color I wear. You can likely recreate the look by using Bite Beauty’s High Pigment Pencil in Scarlet or Bramble just on its own. The pot that I had made is pretty much pure pigments with a little bit of their mixing medium for consistency. I wanted to have more control and a thicker product so I could play around more. It’s a little dry on it’s own, so I usually prep my lips with Burt’s Bees first, blot it off, then apply. The High Pigment Pencils at Sephora already have the perfect formula, so you’d have no need to dilute or mix with a lighter color.
